EXHIBITION THEME: Walls, A Juried Competition“

“…Before I built a wall I’d ask to know
What I was walling in or walling out,
And to whom I was like to give offense.

One of America’s greatest poets left much philosophy woven into the metaphor of his work and his notions concerning walls became enduring and relevant in the poem quoted above. In our own time, walls have their own meanings, metaphorical or actual. As a presence in human history as now, the wall exists as barrier, as support, as well as perimeter of our inhabited space.
We may find dynamic subject matter in powerful associations we all have with this subject. We invite artists to submit works of art inspired by the wall as a visual idea, and to explore the questions freely that arise in the process.

RECEPTION & AWARDS PRESENTATION
An artists’ opening reception and awards presentation will be held on Saturday, July 6th 2019.

JUROR: Chester Arnold, Painter; Professor of Art & Design, College of Marin, California Chester Arnold is a San Francisco Bay Area oil painter whose works explore contemporary landscapes. Each of his naturalistic paintings is a scene in the narrative, a juxtaposition of nature and the human presence. Arnold embraces the craft of painting, but eschews traditional, romantic portrayals of the natural environment.

NON-REFUNDABLE ENTRY FEES: First entry $35. Each additional entry $15. Maximum Entries 3.

MEDIA: Works in the following categories may be entered: sculpture, printing, painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, ceramics, assemblage, collage, mixed media, fiber art, book art, and freestanding sculpture.

All art work must be original.

*This exhibition cannot accept jewelry, video, film, performance art, installation and works requiring an external electrical source.

ARTWORK DIMENSIONS: 2-Dimensional Work: Maximum height 9 feet, width 4 feet (including frame).

3-Dimensional Work: Must fit pedestal sized 16 inches by 16 inches or take up no more than 4 square feet of gallery floor space.

RULES / GUIDELINES

Entries may not have been previously exhibited at the Petaluma Arts Center. You may submit up to 3 artworks.
The SmarterEntry.com submission must be received by the due date for the entry to be considered eligible for the jurying process. By submitting an entry, the artist acknowledges they are 18 years of age and will comply with all the rules, regulations and deadlines of the exhibition.
Wet or unfinished work will not be accepted.
Artwork must be presented professionally. Framed artwork must be wired & ready for hanging. No saw-tooth hangers. No color mats. 2-Dimensional work delivered without wire or appropriate hanging hardware will be eliminated from the exhibition. 3-Dimensional works should be able to hang or stand securely and all assembled parts must be securely fastened.
All artwork must be clean and in excellent condition. No Damaged work, frames or otherwise compromised work will not be exhibited.
Artwork must remain in the gallery for the duration of the exhibition.
IMAGE SPECIFICATIONS: Submit JPEG images sized approximately 3 x 5 inches at 300 dpi resolution. The maximum up-loadable file size is 4 megabytes. All images must be submitted in RGB color mode. High-resolution images are requested for printed publicity of accepted works. Works displayed on-line will be reduced to web-standard low resolution by PAC.

NOTIFICATION PROCESS:Accepted and non-accepted artists will be notified by email by May 31, 2019

Provide a written statement about how your work relates to the exhibition theme (for submission only). Limited to 100 words.

SHIPPED ARTWORK

Accepted artwork to be shipped must be received at the Petaluma Arts Center between June 17-June 24, 2019.

No Sunday deliveries. We cannot accept artwork after June 15th.

Artists are responsible for the cost of two-way shipping.

Accepted, shipped artwork must be accompanied with a UPS or FedEx return label or it will not be exhibited. Please include an envelope titled “return label” with the return label enclosed, inside your box. Include any special handling instructions.

Work must be sent in reusable packing with no styrofoam peanuts. Glass or ceramic sculptures must be double-boxed with at least 2 inches of padding on all sides to prevent damage in transit.

Petaluma Arts Center is not responsible for damage caused in transit.

HAND-DELIVERED ARTWORK

ARTWORK PICK UP

Artwork must be picked up at the Petaluma Arts Center on Sunday, September 1 and Monday, September 2, 2019, between 11am- 5pm.

Artwork left behind after the close of the exhibition may be subject to a late fee of $50 per day. *Artwork left at the Petaluma Arts Center 15 days after the closing date of the exhibition will be discarded or sold.

RETURN SHIPPED ARTWORK
Art work that is to be return-shipped will be shipped between Sept 2-7, 2019.

ART SALES

60 percent of the sale will go to the artists, 40 percent of the sale will go to the Petaluma Arts Center. PAC will mail a check to the artist for any sold artwork within 4-6 weeks after the close of the exhibition.
