PICKING UP THE PIECES - Collage Artists of America’s Annual Juried International Open Virtual Exhibit’

Los Angeles

Description

Collage Artists of America (CAA) is accepting entries for “Picking Up the Pieces – An Annual Juried International Open Virtual Exhibit” launching November 1 - 30, 2021. We encourage artists to take this opportunity to showcase their collage skills while reflecting upon the past year and looking to brighter futures ahead.

The Juror of Selection and Awards is La Monte Westmoreland, a Wisconsin native who has been an active artist for the past forty years. After experiencing his first African American art exhibit and viewing works by the iconic Betye Saar, John Outterbridge, David Hammons, among others, his collage focus shifted. He draws inspiration from his African American life experiences and utilizes Pop Icons in his work to represent black imagery and illustrate racial stereotypes. These assemblage works portray his “wry sense of humor and expose social issues which are layered with political satire.” He has exhibited his work all over the nation and his assemblage works are found in national foundations and over 160 private art collections.

Cash Awards totaling $1100 include first ($500), second ($300), and third ($200) places in addition to the Carolann Watterson Award ($100) and four Honorary Mentions.

CAA is an unincorporated non-profit organization founded in 1988 by nine Los Angeles-area women artists. Meetings are held five times a year featuring renowned guest artists in addition to stimulating workshops and juried exhibitions.  It celebrates the art of collage, both analog and digital, has over 200 members nationwide, boasts over 10,400 members on Facebook and supports an annual scholarship for a deserving high school or college student.
