Description

Buckham Gallery invites artists to submit works for our newest Call for Entry, PRESS PLAY, which will explore the varieties of printmaking methods and media. Printmaking holds profound significance as a cornerstone of visual culture and communication. Emerging from ancient civilizations, such as China and Egypt, and later revolutionizing the world with inventions like Johannes Gutenberg's movable type printing press in the 15th century, printmaking enabled the unprecedented widespread access to knowledge, ideas, and images.

Through diverse and intricate processes like carved relief, mechanical or chemical etching, lithography, and more, artists could replicate their creations with precision, democratizing access to art and literature. This ability to create multiples has catalyzed societal transformations, spreading ideas reflecting shifts in technology, culture, and politics.

Today, the medium’s legacy endures through contemporary printmakers who fuse traditional techniques with innovative approaches, bridging the past and present to amplify their visions and messages in a rapidly changing world.
PRESS PLAY invites artists to submit works of printmaking, and will strive to explore the range of methods and results currently being achieved within the realm of print media. All subjects, themes, and approaches will be considered. Works must feature techniques related to printmaking as their primary media.
Founded in 1984, Buckham Fine Arts Project | Buckham Gallery is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with the vision to support and nurture artists, build community and inclusivity, while challenging our audience to engage with contemporary art in new ways. In commitment to our vision to support artists, Buckham Gallery will provide a stipend of $50 to each artist selected for this exhibition to aid in shipping costs. We acknowledge this may not cover all costs associated with the shipment and return of artwork.
