Description

The City of Mount Holly is seeking qualifications from professional artists, or artist teams, to work in collaboration with select artwork by students at Pinewood Elementary to design and install a mural on a wall next to Pinewood Elementary. The wall is eight (8) feet by sixty-seven (67) feet, totaling 600 Sq. feet approximately. The selected artist(s) will need to integrate work which was produced by students at Pinewood Elementary into their final design/ concept. Design/ concepts should either tie into the City’s tagline “Connecting Community & Nature”, or build on themes of “Welcome”, as the site is located along an entranceway to the City. The wall will be prepped before the project is started & the City will pay for this cost.

Each individual or group is solely responsible for the timely delivery of its Qualifications Package. All Qualifications Packages must be received by 10:00 AM Monday, February 19, 2024. No Qualifications Packages will be accepted after this deadline. Individuals or groups accept all risks of late delivery of Qualifications Packages regardless of fault. Please direct all questions and requests for information no later than 2:00 PM Wednesday, February 14, 2024 by email to elizabeth.bell@mtholly.us. The question deadline will allow an addendum to be issued to clarify the project, if need be. All requests for clarification/information shall be in writing. No verbal correspondence is considered binding.

The City is offering $15,000 for the selected artist(s) to complete this project.

The selected artist(s) for this project is scheduled to be selected by the Public Arts Advisory Committee (PAAC) at their February 21st meeting. After the final artist(s) are selected, they will start working on their final concept, which will need to obtain approval by the Public Arts Advisory Committee (PAAC), Gaston County School Board and Staff, and the City Council. The Final design is due in a PDF format by 12:00 p.m. March 19th, 2024. However, an earlier submittal date is encouraged. Providing an earlier submittal will allow for updates to be worked into the proposed design. The PAAC are scheduled to review & approve the final design at their March 20th meeting. Once final approval is granted by PAAC, the design may not change. If design approval is granted at PAAC’s March meeting-the final approvals from the City Council and the School Board will be completed in April &, the estimated project completion date is the end of May 2024.
