Description

A Call to Artists:

The Wayne Public Art Committee is accepting submissions for the community’s fourth annual sculpture walk. The Wayne Sculpture Walk was established to increase the quantity and quality of public art in Wayne. The Committee’s goal is to beautify our community through the talents and inspirations of professional artists, while also providing unique experiences for our residents and visitors.

From the inception of the Wayne Sculpture Walk, the Committee planned for the selected sculptures to change each year. In our first three cycles, we selected 33 different sculptures. For our 2024-2025 Cycle, the Committee will select up to 12 sculptures. If selected, artists will be expected to have their artwork delivered on or before June 14, 2024.

Artists are invited to enter up to three (3) of their works for consideration. The Committee is committed to marketing the sculptures by publishing a brochure and map of the sculptures (at minimum, paper-based throughout the community; a mobile platform will be utilized if funding is available).

All selected artists will receive a $1,000 stipend for each entry selected by the Committee and once that art piece is delivered.

Please submit an application to Brayden Sharp via email (bsharp@WayneAmerica.org) by May 3, 2024. Applications must include drawings, photographs, renderings and/or concept sketches. The Committee prefers the inclusion of front, side, and rear views, as well as technical specifications regarding the artwork.

Up to twelve (12) artists/exhibits will be chosen to submit their sculptures to participate in the Wayne Sculpture Walk. The chosen artists will be notified by May 10, 2024, to formally participate in this project.

If you have any questions, please contact Brayden Sharp at bsharp@WayneAmerica.org or by phone at 402-375-2240.

Sincerely,
Wayne Public Art Committee

Wayne Sculpture Walk
Rules, Regulations & Application Process

The Wayne Sculpture Walk is an exhibit of original outdoor sculptures to be displayed all year along the Highway 15 (Main Street) and Pearl Street corridors in Wayne, NE (68787).
1. Open to artists residing in the United States and who are 18 years of age or older.
2. All entries must be original works of art.
3. Complete works will be selected by the Committee from those submitted for installation. Sculptures are loaned for the time specified (June 14, 2024, to May 17, 2024) and will not be returned until said period is completed unless prior approval has been granted by the Committee.
4. Artists may enter a maximum of three (3) of their original works. Drawings, photos, renderings, and/or concept sketches must accompany the application (i.e. front, side, and rear views). Additionally, artists are strongly encouraged to include the following technical specifications for each artwork submission: dimensions; weight; materials; and value/pricing information.
5. Artwork must be suitable for outdoor installation and must:
a. Be capable of withstanding high winds, widely fluctuating temperatures (-20 to over 100 degrees), heavy rain, snow, and ice;
b. Be safe for pedestrian traffic;
c. Be maintenance-free during the exhibition period.
6. The Committee will provide installation pads at various sites along the display corridor. The Committee will provide assistance to install and un-install sculptures. The Artist will be responsible for delivery to the site and pick-up from the site according to the specified times.
7. The Committee reserves the right to photograph any submitted work of art for publicity reasons. Sales of artwork is allowed and encouraged through the Wayne Sculpture Walk.
8. The Committee will assist with marketing the Walk and will require a 20% commission from any artwork sold while displayed at the Walk.
9. All selected artists will receive a $1000 stipend upon delivery and installation of their completed artwork. If more than one (1) piece from the same artist is selected by the Committee, then the Artist will receive an additional $1000 stipend for each piece of art.
10. All artists will be responsible for purchasing property insurance. While not required, the Committee strongly encourages all artists to insure their artwork. The City of Wayne will provide liability insurance to cover the City/Committee, but this insurance does not cover damage to the artwork due to poor construction, or damages incurred during shipping, installation or removal. City/Committee insurance does not cover damages due to vandalism or exposure to the elements.
11. The Wayne Public Art Committee reserves the right to reject any artwork that it feels was not represented properly in the submittals. The Committee’s ruling will be final.
