Pro-Creative
A woman possesses twice the procreative powers of a man: she is capable, as men are, of creating great works of art, and she is also capable of gestating and giving birth to a new human life. Feminists Choosing Life of New York (FCLNY), a non-profit, independent organization that empowers women and children and follows the Consistent Life Ethic, is seeking artwork in any medium that contradicts the current feminist narrative that a woman’s autonomy is her greatest strength and that pregnancy is a barrier rather than a boon to female creativity.

Possible themes/topics/considerations:
Symbiosis (instead of Parasitic)
Interdependent (rather than Independent)
Interconnectedness (versus Autonomy)--how do we reconcile a feminism that heralds autonomy with the fact that humans flourish when they are interdependent?
Nexxus and convergence (of life forms, of mother and child, of energies)
What does it mean to be pregnant (with a child and/or ideas--and ideally converging both)?
What does it mean to gestate (a child and/or a work of art--and ideally converging both)?
How does being a mother strengthen one’s creativity?
How does abortion destroy the procreative energy in the world?
How is embracing a Consistent Life Ethic procreative?

We will accept artwork in any medium.
No entry fee, but selected artists are responsible for shipping or delivering their work.

Artists are welcome to list items for sale throughout the duration of the exhibit. Ten % of any proceeds will be donated to FCLNY, a tax exempt 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

Please send an image file of your work with a short statement about the work and a one paragraph artist’s bio before or by the deadline. Email entries and direct any questions to Carrie Perham carrie.a.perham@gmail.com or Alisia Chase alisiafclny@gmail.com

Entry deadline: August 10th, 2024.

This exhibition will take place in Rochester, NY, and will run from September 14th to October 12th, 2024. There will be an opening on Saturday, September 14th and a closing on Saturday, October 12th.
