Overview
Sculpture Walk Springfield (SWS) invites visionary artists, architects, and designers to submit proposals for the Springfield Route 66 Gateway Monument. This public art installation will commemorate Springfield's heritage as the birthplace of Route 66 while embracing a forward-thinking vision for the Route 66 Centennial celebrations in April 2026. The selected design(s) will serve as iconic landmarks, drawing visitors from around the globe.
Eligibility
Submissions are open to everyone—individuals, design teams, architects, and businesses—regardless of experience or location. We welcome diverse perspectives and creative approaches to bring this vision to life.
Project Goals
Celebrate Springfield's Role: Honor Springfield's legacy as the birthplace of Route 66 while presenting a modern and innovative perspective.
Create a Landmark: Ensure the design is visually striking, photographable, and impactful both day and night.

Submission Deadline: February 17, 2025

Budget
The project budget is up to $1,000,000, with $650,000 specifically allocated to design and produce the monument(s).
Submission Requirements
Format: Submit a single PDF document containing all materials. Do not send multiple files.
File Naming: Name your PDF file using the following format: Route66Gateway_[YourName or CompanyName].pdf.
Email Subject Line: Use "Route 66 Gateway - [Your Name/Company Name]" as the subject line when submitting your proposal.
Contents:
Cover Letter: Introduce your team and outline your design vision.
Design Proposal: Concept sketches, detailed design plans, and 3D renderings or mock-ups.
Technical Specifications: Details on dimensions, materials, lighting, and weather resistance.
Timeline and Budget Estimate: Include all design, production, and installation phases.
Portfolio: Showcase relevant projects or large-scale public art installations.

Awards
Selected designers will receive:
Design and Production Budget: $650,000 has been allocated for the artist(s) to cover the design, materials, and production costs of the monument(s).
Recognition: Public acknowledgment and promotion of the winning design(s) during the Route 66 Centennial celebrations and in related media coverage.
