Rankin Avenue Crosswalk Mural
980-310-1079 400 E Central Ave Mount Holly, North Carolina 28120 Mount Holly 28120 |
The City is seeking qualifications from professional artists, or artist teams, to design and install a mural on an existing crosswalk. The approximate 183 sq. ft. mural will be added to this crosswalk, located near the intersection of Rankin Avenue and Hicks Circle. The City will hire a contractor to mill out this area of the roadway and provide new asphalt for the artist(s) to work. Afterwards, the contractor will paint back the striping around the crosswalk to provide a border for the artist to work. The PAAC would work with the selected artist to develop the final design, which would be approved by the Public Arts Advisory Committee (PAAC), and the City Council. The Final design is due in a PDF format by 1:00 p.m. February 17th, 2025. However, an earlier submittal date is encouraged. Approval by the City Council will follow in March 2025. If design approval is granted, the estimated project completion date is to the end of April 2025. The themes that could be included in this mural project are open ended and could be developed after the PAAC selects the chosen artist(s). Past themes in completed works have included: bees, the City’s tag line-connecting community and nature, and pollinators, local history, etc. The City is paying $4,575 to the artist(s) to design and install the mural.
